Alien Farm
Reference-free place that makes you think about creationism and speculative realities
Alien Farm was a (temporarily) desolate landscape with two silent pools. It was a reference-less place that made us think about creationism. A completely closed world with its own reality where every sign of life was absent. The closeness of the installation left the current unquestioned reality out of consideration. The location of the installation (a church) gave the experience an extra strong sensation. The Catholic faith has also tried for centuries to pass on realities that were not real (such as creation, Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark...). The church is a very strong zone for living another reality than the real one.
To step to the entrance of the installation you had to step through a series of otherwise evolutionary animals. The fellow creatures, designed by me, were already a first step towards a new world under development. On entering the actual installation, one immediately found oneself in a different atmosphere with its own smell and temperature.
By adding dry ice (as a performance) in the still puddles of my installation, a chemical reaction took place in the water, causing air bubbles to form and thus micro-organisms to arise. A new world came into being.
